Beauty Review: St Ives Scrub

“It’s like brushing your teeth for your face”
That was the hilarious description my guy friend gave me, when he tried some of my St. Ives Apricot Scrub. He had been making fun of all my lotions and potions in the bathroom and I told him that he couldn’t knock it til he tried it, so he did. His reaction was the same as mine the first time although his choice of words was more amusing.

Beauty Review: Brow Perfection

So thanks to the likes of the lovely Cara Delevinge, big brows are back in style and have been rocking the fashion scene for the last few years. I’ve had some major brow envy recently so was really grateful when my friends at Born Pretty had some great products for taming and sculpting brows.

My brow history has been big bushy and mono looking in the past so I’ve been threading and waxing them thinner for years. So like many of us bushy-brow girls I was nervous about the line between Cara and (Freda) Carlo.

I am by no means a make-up artist so this is a very basic attempt at Day of the Dead girl make-up there are hundreds on youtube videos and photos on Pinterest by real make-up artists that look stunning. This is just my average girl attempt to give a more realistic expectation of what you can pull off if you’re not an absolute pro!

Smells Like Angels Ought to Smell

There is nothing better than treating yourself to a new signature scent and luckily I was treated to a bit of a perfume haul for Christmas, all of which were so delicious and finish off an outfit.

While there are quite a few fragrances that have come out this year that I’ve had my eye on, (I’m looking at you Daisy Dream) as I was low on perfume in general I wanted to get some of my all-time classics that smell gorgeous but that don’t break the bank. Everyone knows that inexpensive perfumes can often be just coloured water in a pretty bottle or worst smell like cheap vodka, but these have be my long term favourites that are worth much more than their price tags. Oldies but still goodies.

Kylie Minogue – Darling (2006)
The Celeb One

As I said when I review Intimately Beckham I’m really not much of a celebrity perfume person but like the Intimately Beckhamthis one really surprised me. I didn’t try this until last year but it instantly become one of my every day favourites. It’s soft powdery smell makes is lovely to wear to work or uni without being overpowering. The bottles a great size to fit in to my hand bag and carry around with me if I need a top up during the day. And come on who doesn’t love Miss Minogue!

Key notes: Australian sandalwood, Amberwood, Lychee, Passion Fruit, Freesia and Boronia flower, Lily, Vanilla.

Ghost – Sweetheart (2008)
The Every Day One

While the new Ghost Eclipse is another new one that has caught my eye, I’ll always remain faithful to Sweetheart. My original every day scent before I discovered Darling, it’s again sweet, gentle and very fresh and feminine. As a true girly-girl at heart these soft feminine fragrances are always a big win with me and it’s nice to have a few day to day scents to mix it up.

Top notes: Lemon, Green notes, Spearmint, Pineapple
Heart notes: Jasmine, Lily-of-the-Valley (Muguet), Rose, Heliotrope
Base notes: Patchouli, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Oakmoss, Ambery notes, Tonka bean, Vanilla, Caramel

DKNY – Red Delicious (2006)
The Day to Night One

I think every single girl in the world must have bought/be given a DKNY Delicious at some point in their life, whether it be Be,Red or Golden. It’s iconic apple shaped bottle and fresh and fruity scent is what makes it a classic, and still one of my firm favorites. The base notes in this one really make it as much a night scent as a day one and is great if you’re going straight out after work and need to freshen up quick.

Top notes: Litchi, Raspberry.
Heart notes: Apple, Rose.
Base notes: Leather, Vanilla Pod

Vera Wang – Be Jeweled (2013)
The Disney Princess One

What is there not to love about Vera Wang? As a Disney Princess-In-Training Vera Wang’s Be Jewled is like a fairy tale perfume. Just look at the at bottle! If I was a genie I would want to live in this bottle.

Besides having a completely childish fairy-princess melt down when I got the first Princess perfume (the bottle had a crown!) the smell was amazing and I used it up way to fast. So when they launched Be Jeweled I had to have it.

I realise that some people find this scent too sickly sweet and too girly, but I’m all about the over the top girlyness, so if you’re of those girls this is for you. Pricier than the others and with a stronger smell I tend to keep this for more nights out and dates nights.

Top Notes: Champagne, Red Current, Pomegranate
Heart Notes: Passion Fruit, Pink Honeysuckle, Pink Peony
Based Notes: Crystal Sugar, Musk, Australian Sandalwood.

Apologies if these scent are far too girly for some of you I definitely have that as my style, but I thought I’d share some great scents that I’ve found over the years that are still great and affordable. All of these are available at The Fragrance Shop, we girls at my local one are so lovely and friendly I get all my perfume from them. And they’re currently having a up to 70% off sale so check it out.
